This page descibes the terms of the brigade lingo:
Breathing Apperatus (BA):
This is a piece of equipment that supplys fresh air into a face mask that the firefighter wears
Persons Reported:
This is a fire were people are belived to be trapped and these take special pirorty.
Crash Rescue Equipment (CRE):
The crash rescue equipment is used when there is car crash or when something needs to be lifted, there are 2 tools a cutting tool which is used to cut through pillars of cars to remove the roof and a spreading tool which is used when somthing needs to be lifted up, this tool can also be used to compress the wing of the car to make he hings more acessible, the 3 main types which are carried on all of cornwall major appliances are Hurst, Webber and Holmatro.
Destress Signal Unit (DSU):
This is a piece of Equipment that clips onto the firefighters BA set and if he/she stands still for too long it will sound a loud high pitch alarm which notifys nearby firefighters and the firefighters on the controll board(see below)
BA Controll Board:
This is a board which is used to moniter how much air is in each firefighters BA tank it is maned by 1 firefighter. the firefighter works out how much air the firefighter by recording the amount of air the firefighter had in their tank before they went in.
HoseReel:
A Hosereel is a reel of hose that is carried on every major appliance. 2 hosereels are carried 1 on each side of every major appliance and these are used mainly in small fire and also because they are easier to pack away.
Jet:
A jet is a bigger version of the hosereel but the hose inst on a reel, the hose is flat and is rolled up, the jet surply's more water than a hosereel and is mainly used in bigger fires.
Positive Pressure Fan(PPF):
The Positive Pressure Fan is a petrol powered fan that blows air out, they are used after a fire to clear the house of smoke by blowing air into the door and opeing all windows to get as much smoke out as possible, these are carried on every Major appliance.
Foam Making Branch
A Foam Making Branch is a attachment which attachs onto a hose which incorproates consontrated foam which is stored in barrles and water surplied via the appliance.Foam is usally used then the substance which is on fire is veryflamable and cant be put out with just water this could be petrol, oil ect
Thermal Image Camera (TIC)
The Thermal Image Camera or TIC as it is known is used for looking for thing in the darkness that produce heat like people and fire, theswe camras maybe used for scearching for people in house fire or just even trying to locate the fire these cameras are carried on the 1st major appliance at every station.
Co Responder:
There are 3 Co Responder crews based in cornwall these are based at St.Kervern,Mullion and Helston fire stations, the co responder crews use the Light 4x4 appliances based at these stations, these appliances can still be used as a firefighting vehicle but also carry vital Life saving equipment.
The Co responder units are based at these 3 locations due to their difficualt location in cornwall, this means that if someone needs medicial attention in or around the villages these responder units will be mobilised before a ambalance and if the casualty need to go to hospital then a ambalance will be called.

A AFA is a unit in the building that is linked up to sensors in the building which is linked to a main control unit, if the alarm sounds then the fire brigade is infomed automaticly
